As an employer or payroll administrator, you will hardly need reminding that you must complete the P35 Return and confirm that the total PAYE and PRSI have been correctly remitted to the Collector General. Every tax year-end, at our (and your) most pressured time, we have the extra workload from callers who request assistance because their totals don’t agree.
I am sure you will agree that it is more difficult to solve problems that come to light several months after an error has occurred. Why can’t life be made a little easier by proving that the figures balance as you go along?
Every time a Period Update is run both EuroPay and PayDay do a P.30/P.35 comparison. If the figures agreee, click Ok to continue. However, if there is a difference then you know that something has gone wrong and if you cancel out of the update you can rectify the problem before continuing the update.
Common Problems:
Problem: The PRSI figures in the P.35 column are greater than the PRSI figures in the P.30 column.
Cause: A new employee’s previous (P.45) PRSI details have been inputted into the PRSI Details screen on set-up. They should be ignored as PRSI relates strictly to this employment only.
Problem: The PAYE figures in the P.35 column are greater than the PAYE figures in the P.30 column.
Cause: An employee’s previous (P.45) PAYE details have been inputted into the this employment fields on the PAYE Details screen instead of P.45/Previous Employment fields.
Problem: The PAYE/PRSI figures in the Employee Master File (P.35 column) have been manually amended.
Cause: The amended PAYE/PRSI figures are therefore not reflected in the P.30 figures.
We would suggest that such amendments are made through the calculation run routines as this method will update both the Employee Master File (P.35) and the Record of Payments (P.30).
It is important to sort out imbalances before updating as above problems are simple to sort out whi le things for that period are fresh in your mind.
Sometimes customers expect us to be able to tell them why there is a difference but, in reality, all we can do is suggest why the difference may be there.
